MATERIALS AND CARE

All of Maugo jewelry is exceptionally handcrafted using only the finest quality materials.

From precious metals and chains, plating and genuine gemstones we make sure that each piece of Maugo designs is a delight to be worn everyday. With proper and consistent care your
jewelry will remain its beauty for many more years, however here you can find some suggestions on how to keep your pieces looking brand new.

PRECIOUS METALS

All of our jewelry (except the baroque and keshi pearl necklaces) is

stamped with "585" hallmark for 14K gold pieces and

"925" hallmark for sterling silver.

  • 14k solid gold

    Solid gold is the least reactive precious metal and will not oxidize or discolor in contact with air or humid. 14K alloy also gives our pieces beautiful and rich color and is by far our most durable option; it’s less bendable and does not scratch as much as 18K. We make solid gold pieces in yellow and rose gold.

    Care:

    Soak your gold jewelry pieces in a warm soapy water and then scrub it gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Use a jewelry polishing cloth for that extra shine!

  • Sterling silver

    925 sterling silver is an alloy containing 92.5% of pure silver and 7.5% of copper. All our silver pieces are hypo-allergenic.

    Care:

    Dry silver is happy silver. Silver jewelry oxidizes naturally with air and humidity. Occasional cleaning with a jewelry cloth will keep them shiny and remove the oxidation. However jewelry that is worn on a regular basis generally needs less care so we advise to wear your MAUGO pieces often, and store them in a closed pouch that is protected from air.

  • Plating

    We plate our silver jewelry to make it shinier and less prone to tarnishing. Rhodium Plating – it is a precious metal and, in fact, the costliest of all due to its rarity in nature. It makes an excellent protective coat that shields jewelry from scratches and requires no particular cleaning procedures. Gold Plating – We use 18K gold plating in 2 microns

    Care:

    Remove your jewelry during certain activities such as sleeping, cleaning, swimming, or participating in sporting activities. Also avoid contact with perfumes and make-up. The patina tends to disappear over time. The speed at which this disappears depends on the way in which the jewelry is cared for. Loss of patina is a normal phenomenon resulting from wear and tear.

GEMSTONES

We work with many different gemstones from organic stones

such as amber or pearls to the most sought-after stones - diamonds.

 

We source precious and semi-precious stones for their clarity and depth of color.

  • Amber

    Most gemstones are minerals, however Amber is not a mineral. What is it then? It is hardened resin of specific species of tress, which have been fossilized over many years. Baltic Amber dates from 45 million years ago! Each of amber stones used in our factory is unique and mined from the Baltic region in Poland. We cut each piece and make different type of stones; these are either cabochons, balls or so-called 'crown cut'® stones, which a registered industrial design.

    Care:

    Amber is not a fan of prolonged exposure to sunlight. Try to keep it away from the direct heat. To keep it nice and clean use a cloth with warm water to remove any oil. Then dry the piece thoroughly using a gentle cloth. If you would like to bring back the shine to your favorite amber piece use a drop of olive oil to polish the stone, then clean with a dry cloth.

  • Diamonds

    Diamond is the hardest known stone across the elements. Our high quality diamonds (SI 1-2 clarity) are ethically sourced from our suppliers, who follow conflict free and socially responsible practices.

    Care:

    A simple plan to maintain your diamond jewelry looking beautiful is to soak it in water with mild dish soap and then clean it gently using a soft toothbrush. Repeat that on a regular basis to keep them shining.

  • Other gemstones

    In our studio we use an array of precious and semi-precious stones. We source only the highest quality stones and then set them in solid gold and silver. We make sure that the gemstones were ethically sourced and made by happy hands.

    Care:

    Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your precious stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. Do not use tissue water or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching

Freshwater pearls

Pearls are organic gems that form within various species of freshwater and saltwater mollusks.

  • Pearls

    We use high quality freshwater cultured pearls in our jewelry pieces. Please note that pearls need some extra attention to keep them in their best condition.

    Care:

    Stones such as pearls should be cleaned with a soft and damp cloth only. Avoid exposing your pearl jewelry to extreme heat or cold as this may cause the stone to contract or expand and can loosen the setting. Keep your pearls in a separate pouch so that they avoid getting scratched.
